Selangor Sikh Union (SSU) Kelab Aman is more than a sports and recreation club. We are a community shaped by generations of people who have brought unity, friendship, culture and sporting excellence to life.
Kelab Aman means “Peace Club” in Malay—a name that expresses the spirit of our shared home.

OUR FOUNDATIONS
Built by people. Shared by generations.
Our roots reach back to the early 20th century, when the Selangor Sikh Union was established as a non-religious community organisation serving Sikhs in Selangor and the Klang Valley. The Union created a place to strengthen relationships, preserve cultural identity and take part in sport and recreation.
On 2 February 1947, the Malaysian Sikh Union was established under the auspices of the Selangor Sikh Union. Representatives from Selangor, Johor, Perak, Malacca and Negeri Sembilan came together to promote unity, education, welfare and community development.
That founding spirit continues to guide us. Our story is the story of presidents, committee members, sports administrators, coaches, athletes, volunteers and members who gave their time, energy, resources and leadership to build a lasting institution.
MILESTONES
From Jalan Aman to the international stage
1954
A place to begin
The Government allocated approximately six acres along Jalan Aman for recreation. The former mining site was swampy and uneven, with a pit more than fifteen feet deep and an approach road that was little more than a dirt track.
1960s–1969
A community builds its home
Drainage improvements began around 1960. Members levelled the ground, improved subsoil drainage and laid turf. The club’s historical publication records that more than 4,000 lorry loads of earth were reportedly brought in. A fundraising committee formed in 1969 helped make further development possible.
1 AUG 1974
Kelab Aman opens
After years of work, the clubhouse and recreation grounds formally opened on 1 August 1974, becoming the home of SSU and a centre for sport, recreation and community life.
1998
A Commonwealth Games venue
Kelab Aman was an official cricket venue for the Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, hosting group-stage matches and the bronze medal match. It was the first time cricket appeared in the Games programme.
2024
Fifty years of Kelab Aman
The club marked five decades since the opening of its clubhouse and recreation grounds—a legacy of perseverance, volunteerism and collective achievement.
Early pioneers including Dato’ Keshmahinder Singh, Ir. Dalip Singh, Dato’ Balwant Singh, Sar. Gian Singh and Sar. Kirpal Singh played important roles in transforming the grounds. Their work, together with the contributions of many members, remains central to the club’s identity.
SPORT & BELONGING
A home for active lives and lasting friendships
Since opening in 1974, SSU Kelab Aman has grown into a multi-sport, social and community hub serving the Sikh community and the wider Malaysian community. Hockey, cricket, football, futsal and netball have long been part of club life, alongside a gymnasium, multipurpose halls and spaces for recreation.
Grassroots participation and youth development matter as much as competition. Initiatives such as the voluntary “Happy Hockey” programme have encouraged children to take up hockey and develop their skills. Coaching, talent identification, school and sports partnerships, and Malaysia–Singapore Sikh sporting exchanges help connect the next generation with opportunity.
We welcome Sikhs and non-Sikhs, bringing people of different backgrounds together for meetings, celebrations, family gatherings and cultural programmes. Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Vaisakhi and Christmas reflect a shared commitment to cultural understanding and friendship.

Our mission is to advance the social, physical, economic, intellectual and general wellbeing of members. We work to improve sporting and recreational facilities, support sports development for Sikh youth and members, and strengthen healthy social and cultural integration with other communities.
Transparency, accountability and constructive member feedback support better administration and management. The club’s relationships with Sikh and community organisations also connect us with welfare, education, cultural preservation and community service.
Families, women, young people and senior members all have a place in club life. Older generations share experiences and traditions, while younger members find opportunities to participate, lead, compete and grow. Preserving that institutional memory is part of our responsibility to the future.
HERITAGE WITH A FUTURE

The Albatross digital management system and SSU mobile application are part of the club’s continuing development. Digital services support facility bookings, applications for car stickers and affiliation cards, and the monitoring of payments and expenditures.
Our strategic vision looks ahead to a stronger multi-sport community hub. The following are future ambitions and opportunities that will guide the club’s development:

Upgraded sporting surfaces and lighting, expanded indoor sport, larger regional tournaments and sports academies for young athletes.
Member services & technology
Further digital membership renewals, smarter booking and event management, and better use of information to understand member engagement.
Youth & leadership
Potential leadership programmes, coaching pathways, scholarships and partnerships with schools and universities.
Heritage & outreach
Opportunities for an archive or heritage gallery, oral histories and digital preservation, alongside NGO collaboration, wellness programmes, intercultural sport, and women and youth initiatives.
Our greatest strength remains the strength that shaped our beginnings: people coming together with a shared purpose. Our story continues with every member, volunteer, athlete, coach, family and community partner who contributes to the life of SSU Kelab Aman.
